The bathroom shelf barely holds the stack of hair care products. In spite of it, you buy another few just because you happen to stumble upon the drugstore on your way home and because you somehow think that you are missing some cosmetics. What is that your hair truly needs – variety or minimalism? It is time to take a closer look.
The hair care dilemma spreads to all aspects of it so not just how to take the best care of the hair, but also what cosmetics you should use and how many of them you should have at hand at all times. The more the better? Or, perhaps minimalism is what you need? The answer may surprise you!
Hair Care cosmetics. How many do you need?
We often think that the more cosmetics for hair you have the better for your hair. Instead of getting one hair mask, you buy five and think that is the only way you can deliver hair with the most nutrients and will take better care of it. The truth is that your hair needs only a few cosmetics.
- Shampoo – the best will be natural, free from strong washing substances that could trigger scalp irritation but effective enough to cleanse the hair.
- Hair conditioner – it’s essential to make combing easier after hair wash but also to protect hair against water and nutrients loss.
- Hair mask – the right type for your hair (with proteins, humectants, emollients) to use at least once a week.
In fact, it is enough cosmetics so we could just end here when it comes to products for hair care. However, it is obviously good to add some scalp toners, exfoliators, hair rinse, and natural oils that can condition the hair and protect it against heat and the sun.
The most important is quality, not the quantity
Instead of focusing on the number of products, you should better make sure that you have cosmetics with high quality – good composition, light-weight formula. The truth is that sometimes one mask is better than two with worse composition. Focus on the quality, not quantity. Thanks to it, you will take better care of your hair and achieve conditioning success sooner, while gaining some space on the bathroom shelves. Make choices that are best for your hair, but also for the environment because the fewer cosmetics the fewer empty bottles.
Go for minimalism in the hair care
More and more women appreciate the new approach towards taking care of themselves and their hair. Even though minimalism in hair care is quite a new trend it gained a lot of love from women. It is not only because it’s cheaper (fewer cosmetics = fewer expenses) but also because it provides better effects. How to introduce minimalism to hair care? There are a few rules.
- Exchange a few mediocre hair masks for one with great ingredients and formula.
- Do not switch up cosmetics too often – find those that work for you and stick to them.
- Use the smallest necessary doses of the cosmetic.
- Limit heat stylization to avoid damage.
- Do not focus on only the hair: do the absolute minimum and leave it be.
- Tend to the hair less often, e.g. wash it every 2-3 days instead of every day.
However, remember that variety matters too!
You should keep in mind that all in all hair likes variety – only in the form of a variety of nutrients, not the products used. Look for cosmetics with a rich composition that will deliver your hair with all the necessary substances. Here also applies the rule that one good mask is better than two with a composition that lacks certain nourishing ingredients.
